The Adaptec Serial ATA Host Controller 1205SA offers improved system reliability by adding 32-bit CRC error checking for all bits transmitted (command, data, and status). Parallel ATA provides CRC only for data packets. Serial ATA also features built-in support for first-party DMA to eliminate bottlenecks associated with on-board DMA controllers. It also minimizes electronic noise that can lead to data transmission errors. One of the biggest breakthroughs offered by the Serial ATA technology is PC-friendly cabling. The thinner insulated SATA cables are much easier to install than the shorter, wider Parallel ATA cables. The smaller SATA cabling allows for improved airflow inside the PC chassis for a cooler component environment.
