Since its founding in 1988, Promise Technology, Inc. has the distinction of creating more ground-breaking firsts in EIDE/ATA controller technology than any other firm worldwide. Within two years of entering the controller market, Promise Technology introduced the world's first IDE cache controller, and the first EIDE chipset. Other major product introductions quickly followed.

During just the last five years alone, Promise developed the first Ultra ATA/33, Ultra ATA/66, Ultra ATA/100, and Ultra ATA/133 controller cards that have been instrumental to the worldwide acceptance of high performance Ultra ATA hard drives. This same period of product development also saw Promise create an entirely new PC market segment, ATA RAID, with the launch of the world's first IDE/ATA RAID controller, FastTrak in 1996.
